Hurricane Plan
It is Boyd’s policy to ensure we maintain a safe work environment. This includes during periods leading up to and during natural disasters. As such, Boyd has prepared a Hurricane Preparation Plan to assure you and the assets of the company are safeguarded during a storm. We look to all employees to not only prepare the company for an event but also make preparations for themselves and their families. Hurricanes are a very serious threat but with good preparation the impact of one can be minimized.
When a hurricane WATCH is issued, Boyd will:
- Monitor The Weather Channel (TWC) and other news sources, watching the storm’s progress and most recent projection.
- Activate and record a watch message on the Plant status phone line. 727-471-4893.
- Initiate user backups from Workstations for any user with data stored on their hard drive.
- Make sure that the company vehicle has a full tank of fuel.
- Make sure that we have sufficient forklift propane on hand.
- Make sure that we have water and snacks for after the hurricane repair team.
- Prepare to secure the building and protect the contents according to the plan.
- Purchasing Department will review stock of critical materials that may be in short supply due to a hurricane, such as plywood.
When a hurricane WARNING is issued, Boyd will:
- Monitor news channels and NOAA updates via National Weather Service (NWS). This can be found at NOAA.gov.
- Monitor the Pinellas County Emergency Management website for the most current information pertaining to preparation instructions and other guidance.
- Begin to prepare in all areas following the individualized hurricane checklists.
- Send employees home in time for them to complete their hurricane plans.
After the hurricane event is over, we will:
- The authorized Phase 3 employees will gain access to the property and building.
- Evaluate any damage and perform any repairs required so that it can be safely occupied.
- Supervisors will contact team members to confirm their status and safety.
- During this recovery phase, we will provide daily updates on a voicemail greeting on phone number 727-471-4893. This phone number will remain active until the company is fully operational.
- All employees can check this daily to see when they can return to work. Every morning after the event, updated information will be available.
- Employees can also leave messages on this line to let us know what their situation is if it conflicts with the Company’s plan to re-open for business.
- This method will speed up the recovery efforts that will return us to normal operating condition.
It is important for us to have contact numbers that work for all of Boyd’s employees. This would include home telephone numbers, cell phone numbers and any other numbers like friends or relatives with whom you may be staying during a hurricane.
